Q - I can’t hear REASON or ABLETON in Cubase via re-wire.

A – First things first… You must have Cubase already booted and
a project open before you boot REASON.
Second, you must go to the “DEVICES” drop down menu in Cubase,
select REASON and activate INPUTS for REASON.

LESSON – Cubase does NOT automatically create inputs for ANY
REWIRE devices. You must activate them.

Q – My computer had a bad crash and now Cubase is REALLY REALLY slow!

A – Sometimes when you have a crash or even install some new stuff,
Cubase reverts to it’s default DRIVER settings. In other words…
It forgot what sound card or audio interface you have and want to use.
The slowness is because the “default” setting uses the onboard soundcard in your
computer and that’s NO GOOD… In fact, that’s why you bought that nice interface!

FIX – Go to the devices dropdown menu and select “DEVICE SETUP”. Then,
click on “VST Audiobay”. Now, just to the right you’ll see a dropdown menu
called Master ASIO Device. Now just click on the down arrow and you’ll see
a small list to choose from. Just choose your device and everything will go back to normal.
Depending on the device, you may need to restart.

LESSON – When things go awry with audio, always check these settings.

Q – I have a FIREWIRE based audio interface… Sometimes I hear clicks and pops
while recording.

A – Firewire devices can be very fussy about what they are sharing the firewire “chain” with.
To test for this possible issue, Turn OFF your computer, remove everything from your firewire connection EXCEPT your audio interface. Now try to re-create the problem. If you use External Hard Drives for recording, you’ll need to temporarily record to one of your computers INTERNAL drives. If that solves the problem, you might want either add an INTERNAL Hard Drive for audio OR add a Firewire card to your system and keep your interface and your drives separated.

LESSON – Always be careful about how many devices are on your Firewire chain.
Some of them might not get along.
