Logic FAQ

Here is a FREE FAQ tutorial for Apple Logic Studio

Q: How do I setup my new audio interface with LOGIC?

A: From the LOGIC PRO MENU, select PREFERENCES: AUDIO. A dialogue window showing DEVICES: CORE AUDIO will open. From the Device Pulll Down Menu select you interface.

Q: How do I record audio in LOGIC?

A: From the Track mini menu, select New Track. Select Audio and determine whether the track is mono (one input) or stereo (two inputs). Select the physical input you are using. Check the input Monitoring and Record Enable boxes. Your track is now set to record. Push the Mixer button in the lower left to see your tracks Fader, giving easy access to mix level, record enable or input monitoring.

Q: What is “low latency” mode?

A: When working in sessions that contain a lot of plug-ins, Latency will increase making recording live performances or VI’s more difficult due to an increase in Lag. By enabling Low Latency Mode (small Speedometer in the TRANSPORT BAR at the bottom of the window) Logic will bypass any plug-ins along the signal flow that would impede the timing. Plug-ins with the highest latencies will automatically be bypassed first.

Q: What are “takes”?

A: TAKES are basically a single pass of recording audio. If you re-record over a previous TAKE on the same track, Logic automatically creates a TAKE FOLDER. Open the TAKE FOLDER at any time by clicking on the triangle in the upper left of the region. This will allow you to see all your TAKES, and to create COMPS (good take selections).

Q: What do I do if my session is having problems playing back?

A: Most playback problems are directly related to the I/O BUFFER SIZE. If your session has many plug-ins, you may need to increase it so the computer has more time to process all the information. From the LOGIC PRO MENU, select PREFERENCES: AUDIO. A dialogue window showing DEVICES: CORE AUDIO will open. The I/O Buffer Size may be too low. Try increasing it to the next level from the Pull Down Menu.

Other possible sources for problems during playback are incompatible or out of date plug-ins. If you are using 3rd party plug-ins in your session, check to see that they are the current versions.

Q: How do make a project template?

A: Create a new session and make it the way you want to start each time you open Logic. From the FILE MENU select SAVE AS TEMPLATE. Name the template and select Save. This TEMPLATE will now show up under the MY TEMPLATES COLLECTION when you open Logic, or select NEW from the FILE MENU.
